Iron-on patches are one of the most convenient customization options, but a poor application can result in the patch peeling or lifting prematurely. Follow our professional application guide to get a perfect, long-lasting bond every time.
What You’ll Need
A household iron set to the cotton/high setting (no steam), a thin pressing cloth or pillowcase, and a hard flat surface like an ironing board or table.
Step-by-Step Application
Step 1: Pre-heat the fabric. Iron the area where you’ll apply the patch for 30 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
Step 2: Position the patch face-up on the fabric in your desired location.
Step 3: Place a thin cloth over the patch to protect the threads.
Step 4: Press firmly with the iron for 30–45 seconds. Do not slide the iron — use direct downward pressure.
Step 5: Allow to cool for 60 seconds, then check the edges. If any edges lift, repeat with additional pressure.
Pro Tips
Turn the garment inside out and iron from the back for an even stronger bond. Avoid washing for 24 hours after application. For best permanence on frequently washed items, add a few hand stitches around the border.
